2010, Year of Glam.

I just had a chance to listen to the new Groove Armada album, Black Light, and it's got a decidedly glam rock (and dare I say it, Disco) feel. Pair this with the new album from Gorillaz (I'm sure you've heard of them) and I think we've got the cultural references for 2010 sorted.
Welcome to 1974.
Bryan Ferry even makes an appearance on Black Light, just in case the influence of Roxy Music on the album wasn't clear enough. I, for one, am thrilled. I think it's high time that we got on this nostalgia trip.

New Groove Armada track with Bryan Ferry ends the day with even more impossibly good new music

Shameless from Groove Armada's upcoming album Black Light is on RCRDLBL to download. It is effortlessly elegant, and it's retro 70's nostalgia makes it sound quite at home alongside Gorillaz' Stylo.

Hot Chip's version of "Transmission" for the new War Child "Heroes" album

The latest War Child compilation calls on the coolest popsters to do cover versions of some pretty high profile tracks. There's Lily Allen's version of "Straight To Hell", by the one and only Clash; Scissor Sisters try Roxy Music with "Do The Strand"; and Franz Ferdinand go Blondie with "Call Me".
The full tracklisting is here, along with details to order this great album. It's for a great cause guys, just buy it!
War Child have previously put out those "Help" albums, which saw Britpop luminaries come together in 1995, and later on in 2005 when many of the same bands offered tracks they wrote and recorded in 24 hours.

Listen below to Hot Chip's version of the Joy Division track "Transmission". It's much more low key than I expected, which matches the original...and STEEL DRUMS!
