Dark Night Of The Soul

The new album from Mark Linkous and Danger Mouse, Dark Night Of The Soul is streaming on NPR. I'd listen to it now, since due to those bastardy people at EMI, the music might never see a release. You can buy the accompanying book designed by David Lynch at the Dark Night Of The Soul website, but instead of the music, you'll get a blank CD-R "to do with what you like".

Shame.

There's brilliant guest performances on every track, with Black Francis, The Flaming Lips, Iggy Pop, Julian Casablancas, and Jason Lytle appearing (and many others).
I love Sparklehorse, and Danger Mouse has obviously worked with loads of musicians I like...so this is a bit exciting.

I'd seen little blurbs about this online for a while, but assumed they were referring to Sparklehorse's album Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain which had some production by Danger Mouse. That'll teach me not to read things!

So far it's sounding like everything I listened to in the early 2000's. Granddaddy, The Strokes, The Flaming Lips, Sparklehorse, The Cardigans...
It's a nice nostalgic listen.
I'd forgotten how cool and unique Julian Casablancas' vocals are.
