Washington Post's David Malitz requests that Blur come to America. Lets make this a movement!

Ha, validation! It's not just pasty ex-pats that want Blur to come here.
I think we should fill the comment section on his piece with our support? No?

A BLUR SONG A DAY: Magic America/ Look Inside America double header!

In honor of the fact that there may be some Blur shows in the States, it's time for A BLUR SONG A DAY double header. Magic America is a look into the mind of a foreigner in the USA, and highlights all the stereotypical American things that Brits find gauche. It's full of backhanded compliments and thinly veiled digs.

The later Blur song, Look Inside America, revisits the theme of a foreigner in America, but with a more sympathetic tone. It's written from Damon's point of view, not the fictional Bill Barrat. Damon's view of America had changed by 1997's Blur album, he actually admitted "she's alright".

It's not a total departure from Magic America though, he still characterizes Americans as "strung out" and "hung up", but it's a more personal account of Blur touring the U.S. I think Damon's initial animosity towards the States stemmed from Blur's inability to break into the music scene here. By the time of Look Inside America, Damon had let that go stating "I'm not trying to make her mine". Ironically their biggest American hit Song 2 came from the same album, proving that once you let things go, they come to you (and maybe be careful what you wish for!)
