Oh no, this is horrible! This was posted on Blur's facebook so I guess it's real. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY PUT TONY BLAIR ON IT!
Top Row:
So I guess that's a map of Essex? The sheep are for Country House, Milky from Coffee And TV, some sort of protest march I can't make out.
Union Jack (Oh are they British?)
Third Row:
Lottery balls (I'm guessing they're for Could Be You?), Iraq war photo for Think Tank, the bloody Millennium Dome! Trim Trabb trainers (for Trimm Trabb obviously).
Fourth Row:
Tony bleeding Blair?? Communist McDonalds chips, satellite dishes (maybe that's for The Universal?), and polar bears.
I get most of these references, maybe not the polar bears...did I miss a whole chunk of Blur where they sang about polar bears? Someone needs to clarify that one, it's probably something really obvious and I'll feel stupid when it's pointed out.
What a total piss-take of an album cover. It's more like a 90's Britain retrospective than a Blur retrospective. I'm quite sure that Blur did a bit more than just be British. Didn't Damon shun the whole "cool Britannia" thing by telling Tony Blair he had become a communist?
I feel as if this is the outsiders view of Blur. That all they were about was being hyper Essex lads singing pub anthems. I realize this compilation is aimed at first time Blur listeners but the cover isn't going to help correct any misconceptions. Even with the protests and Iraq pictures, it sort of demystifies Blur's music and gives the impression that every song is to be taken literally and at face value.
Maybe it's ironic?
gahh!

It reminds me of the insert art in the best of music video collection.
ALSO: Blur have a facebook page? I am a bad, bad fan.
I think it looks ok, it's just Tony Blair and the Millennium Dome that rub me the wrong way.
the polar bears - global warming?
well anyway . . it was all doomed from the minute they decided that title!
aww well you can't blame them. I bet it's all evil EMI's doing.
Even though I have all of these songs (in triplicate) already I'll probably still buy it.
EMI to blame for the cover? hmm, but haven't they always picked their own cover art before?
you need the songs in quadruplicate - just to be on the safe side, i hear ya ;)
didn't graham have a twitter rant when someone blamed him for the title? I think he said something along the lines of "do you think we get to pick the title" and something about the record company. I would think EMI is probably wanting to cash in on the reunion fervor, I doubt the album was Blur's idea really.
I totally agree.
Blurs cover art is usually just fantastic and this is so lazy.
Argh!!!! Just shit. And I know it's not damon, grahams, daves and alex's fault. What a shame.
B-b-but....Best of Blur was a perfect 1-disc compilation...well, as perfect as it could be in one disc. ;_;
I know Marilyn! They should've got Julian Opie to revisit those portraits from the cover, just make them look older for this one...Bang, there's your midlife.
