Melancholy Masterpieces

A new compilation is out in the UK today, and it's a right nightmare. Time To Say Goodbye is looking to cash in on the public's willingness to be manipulated by a particularly well soundtracked montage of Princess Diana/Jade Goody/someone who's been kicked off Britain's Got Talent.
There's a whole two discs of drecky schmaltz that's guaranteed to pull at your gag reflex, if not your heartstrings.
It got me thinking about my favorite Melancholy Masterpieces, and what a compilation done right might look like. This idea just came to me so it might be woefully incomplete...
1. Blur: This Is A Low.
2. Bauhaus: All We Ever Wanted Was Everything
3. Primal Scream: Keep Your Dreams
4. Morrissey: Seasick, Yet Still Docked
5. My Bloody Valentine: Sometimes

7. Elbow: Newborn
8. Beck: Lost Cause
9. Bjork: Hyperballad
10. Lou Reed: Perfect Day
