My sister is currently at the bar hanging out with Mani and getting confirmation that there will be NO Stone Roses reunion. I'm pretty sure that was already confirmed by John Squire and the Guardian, but she's calling it a scoop.
I did not go to the bar due to my inability to get over past comments by Mani, and my overpowering grannyness. My distaste for Mani couldn't keep me away from the Primal Scream show. They are one of those infuriating bands that can produce the most amazing, brilliant, and timeless songs...but they also seem to write a lot (recently at least) that sound like Status Quo.
When they're good they're innovators, and when they're bad...well, it's just a bit tired.
The best bits of the night were the performances from XTRMNTR. I'm not going to apologize for the fact that that it's the only Primal Scream album I've absolutely loved. I just like that incarnation of the band the best. To me, even fantastic songs like Moving On Up seem a little "novelty" sounding compared to the genius of XTRMNTR, and It's been difficult for me to really get into anything they've released since. It really was amazing, however, to see them play some of my favorite songs ever, EVER, live.
Bobby was, as always, the consummate performer, he did the obligatory flailing.
I only got a few minutes of video, in a tragic turn for crunchy, fuzzy video enthusiasts everywhere, the Metro staff told me to stop taking videos. Unfortunately, due to some sort of magical force field, it has already been deleted from YouTube thanks to their super efficient copyright enforcers... and it's not working on Vimeo, probably also due to the force field, meh.
