Pitchfork media is streaming the first single from Amadou and Mariam's new album Welcome To Mali. The single is produced by Damon and is pretty excellent. It sounds way more ethereal and electronic than their last album Dimanche A Bamako, but although it has a definite Albarn stamp on it (dundundundun piano at the beginning, dreamy vocal mixing..) it is quite unique and stands alone. I think it sounds similar to "Pigsy In Space" from Damon's last release Monkey: Journey to the West and there's a little bit of The Good The Bad and The Queen in there too. Mariam's vocals sound really cool (I'm not sure what Amadou did on this particular track! Maybe his vocals are on there too?)
