Guy Garvey's finest hour...

BBC Radio 6 seems to be the playground for any old person to have their own radio show. This might actually be a great thing because there's tons of weird and interesting radio being done. Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has his own Sunday show "Guy Garvey's Finest Hour". I reckon that Elbow are one of the most underrated bands ever. They got lumped in with that whole Coldplay-esque genre, but in actuality are a bit darker, a bit more sadder (in a good way) and a lot more better! I've been right into Manchester bands of late, old and new (Stone Roses, Verve, The Smiths, Working for a Nuclear Free City, Joy Divsion, Elbow, and Doves...) and I've had a wee re-listen to my Elbow albums, they're great.
Anyway, back to Guy's radio show...It's two hours of him playing old, medium, and new songs (medium being relatively old or new depending on that which it is being related to). He tends to veer towards the more sullen songs, Tom Waits etc, but he also pulls out excellent forgotten songs from the early britpop and shoegaze era like Ride's "Vapour Trail". The older songs are mostly blues and jazz, but the good jazz if you know what I mean....
Guy has a really reassuring radio voice, like an old fashioned BBC announcer (but with a Mancunian accent..) it'll make you want to curl up with a cup of tea and relax.
